China Unicom to deploy Huawei Active Antenna Unit in Xinjiang

Cellular towers in China
China Unicom will deploy Huawei Active Antenna Unit (AAU) solution in Xinjiang province to build out Xinjiang Unicom’s mobile broadband (MBB) network.

Xinjiang Unicom aims to complete LTE 4G network coverage in urban areas – as part of its network deployment strategy.

The telecom network operator is unable to offer comprehensive 3G network coverage in some areas. This means, Xinjiang Unicom needs to focus on both 3G and 4G.

The Huawei wideband AAU solution meets the 3G and 4G network demands of the Xinjiang Unicom network.

365MHz wideband technology in Huawei’s AAU solution supports both 4G and 3G networks. Its radio function evolved from 3G to 4G without additional hardware investment enabling telecom network operators to quickly launch LTE carrier aggregation on 1800MHz and 2100MHz.

Huawei’s AAU integrates Radio Unit and Antenna functions to deliver benefits for tower site construction, such as eliminating the need for cable connection, waterproofing the Radio Unit and Antenna, and eliminating PIM issues. The AAU cuts the need for hardware components by 66 percent, said Huawei.

Xie Fanghong, manager of Xinjiang Unicom’s network construction department, said that Huawei’s AAU solution helps the company to speed deployment of the 4G network, and at the same time significantly improves 3G network coverage.

As many as 70 telecom network operators have deployed the Huawei AAU solution in China, Europe, Canada, Russia, as well as countries in the Middle East and South Americas.
