Videotron deploys Hitron Gigabit Cable Modem

Videotron has deployed Hitron Gigabit Cable Modem (CDA3-35) in a Montreal project.

That was the first commercial installation of DOCSIS 3.0 32×8 channel bonding modem in North America. Hitron ships over three million DOCSIS units annually worldwide.

Todd Babic, chief sales and marketing officer for Hitron  explained CDA3-35 is designed to provide cable operators with the high-performance CPE required for them to deploy their high-bandwidth differentiated services in homes and small businesses.

Hitron claimed that the CDA3-35 will deliver Videotron speeds up to one Gbps with 32 bonded downstream channels over its DOCSIS interface.

“Our customers count on us for a seamless, jitter- and lag-free experience from our high-definition cable TV, cable telephone, and high-speed Internet access services,” explained Daniel Proulx, chief technology officer for Videotron.

“The ever-increasing demand for bandwidth to support Internet-based applications and services, on-demand programming and other bandwidth-intensive services, requires us to deploy CPE that is on the cutting edge of technology.”

The CDA3-35 enables Videotron to effectively meet spiralling daily Internet use by consumers fuelled by the proliferation of Internet-connected devices and the explosive growth of television streaming services.

Further, Hitron said the CDA3-35 delivers up to one gigabit speeds by utilizing Intel’s Puma 6-MG DOCSIS processor and MaxLinear’s 32-channel MxL268 tuner.
