Smile launches VoLTE in West Africa

4G LTE network operator Smile Communications Nigeria has tapped Samsung Electronics to launch the first LTE voice over broadband service on Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone in West Africa.

Improved voice and video communications, enabling faster, better video calls, faster music, video streaming and conferencing, faster downloads and more pictures are some of the focus areas of 4G LTE mobile network of Smile Communications.

Recently, Smile Communications Nigeria secured $365 million funding.

“With the $365 million funding, we are ready to double our network output; spread to different cities and continue enhancing our network capacity by next year,” said Michiel Buitelaar, managing director, Smile Communications Nigeria.

Founded in 2007, Smile Communications Nigeria launched West Africa’s first 4G LTE network in Ibadan in 2013. Smile operates mobile wireless 4G LTE broadband networks in the 800MHz band in Nigeria, Tanzania and Uganda. Smile will launch its broadband network in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) early in 2016.‎
