Reliance Jio 4G to connect all villages in Punjab by year-end

Mukesh Ambani
Reliance Jio Infocomm will connect all villages in Punjab with 4G services by the end of this year, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said on Monday.

Badal said that Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, whom he met in Mumbai on Monday, had assured him that all villages in Punjab will have 4G connectivity by December 28 this year.

Punjab has over 12,000 villages. The state has a population of nearly 2.8 crore.

“Punjab would become the first state in the country to have broadband connectivity at the village level. Reliance had already invested Rs 3,500 crore in the state and would give employment to 30,000 people in the next few years,” Badal said.

Ambani said Reliance would provide low cost connectivity to students at 70 percent discounted rates.

Badal said that Reliance had laid 7,000 km of fibre across the state to ensure 4G connectivity.
