Ministry signs agreement with Saudi Telecom Company

The Ministry of Communications (MoC) has signed a contract
with Saudi Telecom Company (Mobily) to link the company’s road network with the
ministry for 15 years.

The ministry is trying to reduce prices and improve the
delivery of Internet service in the country.

The value of the contract that will link the Saudi
company’s road network with the ministry through the border areas of Salmi and
Nuwaisib is 315,000 Kuwaiti dinars,” said Minister of Electricity and Water and
Minister of Communications, Salem Al-Uthaina.

The Ministry is working on two parallel plans. The first
is the development and expansion of old cables, and the other is the
introduction of external cables to give more freedom of choice and competition
between companies, according to a report in Kuwait Times
.

This linkage gives Internet-service providers, local and
external suppliers, greater scope to compete in the market. It helps to improve
the services provided with the highest quality and lowest price.

The Ministry also has plans to sign other contracts in
the future. He pointed out that the ministry will soon form a specialized
committee to pursue services and complaints, as well as to coordinate and
control prices of telecommunications and Internet companies in the country.
