Telekom Austria Group has completed its trial of the NEC/NetCracker virtual customer-premises equipment (vCPE) solution.
The solution included vCPE, SDN controller, service and network orchestration as well as virtual network functions (VNFs) from multiple vendors.
Telekom Austria has validated the NEC/NetCracker vCPE solution’s ability to migrate IP functionality from residential gateways to the operator cloud because this technology offers instantiation, orchestration and controlling third party VNFs for on demand applications such as parental control, firewall, DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance).
“The combined expertise of NEC and NetCracker gives us a great confidence knowing that the opportunities presented from this sophisticated vCPE trial will translate into real deployment in the future,” said Guenther Ottendorer, CTO at Telekom Austria Group.
The validation will enable Telekom Austria Group to ensure faster time-to-market for new services and reduce capital and operating costs. In-home video, music and photo media streaming to compatible devices at home will be some of the latest offerings.
Telecom Austria Group’s capital expenditure (Capex) has already reduced to 77.8 percent in Q4 2014 to 284.9 million euros. The vCPE solution can assist Telecom Austria to slash the Capex further.
The vCPE solution will also enable next-generation, IPv6-based internet connectivity without requiring end-users to undergo complex processes on site.
