SK Telecom appoints Jang Dong-hyun as new CEO

SK Telecom has appointed as Jang Dong-hyun as the new president and CEO.

Jang Dong-hyun is currently the chief operating officer (COO) of SK Planet.

Between 2000 and 2013, Jang served various key positions at SK Telecom, including head of Strategic Planning Division and head of Marketing Division. In January 2014, he took over as the COO of SK Planet, a subsidiary of SK Telecom.

SK Telecom said Jang is expected to steer the telecom service provider to sustained growth amidst rapidly changing market conditions by focusing on its core strength as a network operator and developing new businesses.

SK Telecom’s third quarter revenue increased 5.9 percent supported by growth in LTE/LTE-Advanced subscribers. The number of LTE/LTE-Advanced subscribers surpassed 16 million, taking up more than 57 percent of the company’s total mobile subscriber base.

The operating income of SK Telecom in Q3 2014 fell 1.7 percent on quarterly basis. Net income of the Korean telecom service provider increased 6.7 percent.
