Qualcomm brings LTE multimode solution Gobi 9×45 modem

Chip vendor Qualcomm Technologies today introduced Gobi 9×45 modem, its fifth-generation LTE multimode solution, and QFE3100, its second- generation RF360 Envelope Tracker.

Qualcomm said these two products are currently sampling with customers and will be commercially available in 2015.

Features of 9×45 modem

The 9×45 modem, the first Category 10 LTE cellular modem, supports global Carrier Aggregation (CA) for download speeds of up to 450 Mbps, upload speeds of up to 100 Mbps, and CA across the TDD and FDD spectrum.

The modem is based on the second-generation 20nm technology node and supports up to 60 MHz 3x CA in the downlink and up to 40 MHz 2x CA in the uplink. The 9×45 modem integrates all major cellular standards, including DC-HSPA, EVDO, CDMA 1x, GSM and TD-SCDMA, supports all major RF bands and band combinations.

It provides global position support for all major constellations including GPS, Beidou, Glonass and Galileo. Additionally, the modem features integrated support for LTE Broadcast, VoLTE and LTE Dual SIM.

The 9×45 modem will enable consumers to experience up to 2x faster upload speeds and up to 1.5x faster peak download speeds as compared to LTE Category 6 devices. This apart, it is designed to allow telecom operators to maximize use of available spectrum resources, deliver higher user data rates.

Features of QFE3100

The QFE3100 is optimized for 30 percent smaller board area and enhanced power efficiency as compared to the previous generation, as well as allows improved calibration and implementation tools to ease Envelope Tracking design-in for OEMs and accelerate commercial deployment.

This Envelope Tracker is designed to enable sleeker designs and improved battery life by reducing power amplifier (PA) power consumption and heat generation.
