3G 4G mobile Internet users to touch 3 bn in 2020 from 1.3 bn: GSMA

The number of mobile Internet users will grow to 3.8 billion or 50 percent of population in 2020 against 2.2 billion or 30 percent in 2013, said GSMA.

GSMA, a telecom industry body, said 3G 4G driven mobile Internet will grow to 3 billion in 2020 from 1.3 billion in 2013, while 2G internet will decrease to 0.8 billion from 0.9 billion.

Mobile Internet user base in developing telecom markets will reach 3 billion from 1.5 billion, while developed nations will have 0.8 billion connections from 0.7 billion.

GSMA said mobile Internet penetration will reach 50 percent from 30 percent. In developed telecom markets, mobile Internet penetration will grow to 71 percent from 59 percent, while penetration of mobile Internet in developing countries will reach 45 percent from 25 percent.
