Indian telecom operator Vodafone has increased its mobile Internet rates for 2G and 3G customers by 100 percent across the country.
Vodafone will be implementing the new package in a phased manner.
As per the new mobile Internet tariff, Vodafone pre-paid and post paid users need to pay 4 paisa per 10 KB as compared to 2 paisa per 10 KB earlier.
Vodafone rivals such as Idea Cellular, Bharti Airtel, Aircel, Reliance Communications, Tata Docomo, etc. are yet to respond to the new tariffs.
The last revision in Vodafone’s for pay-as-you-go (PAYG) package was in November last year. Last year, Vodafone reduced the mobile Internet rates by up to 80 per cent to 2 paisa per 10 KB from 10 paisa per 10 KB.
During fiscal 2014, Vodafone India reported 125 percent surge in data traffic from nearly 52 million data customers in the country, with 7 million of them 3G data users.
The company last week during a press interaction said it would focus on mobile Internet to strengthen its revenue streams.
