Huawei names Guo Ping as acting CEO

Chinese mobile equipment maker Huawei today said Guo Ping will be the acting CEO of the telecom network vendor from 1 April 2014 to 30 September 2014.

Guo Ping will replace the current rotating and acting CEO Eric Xu.

The new acting CEO has deep experience in the U.S. telecom market, one of the focus areas for Huawei to further build relationship with the Obama federal government.

On Monday, the Chinese telecom equipment vendor said its 2013 revenue increased around 9 percent to $38.49 billion with a profit of $3.38 billion. Huawei financial performance was better than Ericsson, ZTE, etc.

The rotating CEO acts as the primary person of the company’s operations and crisis management during his tenure and is responsible for convening and chairing the meetings of Board of Directors’ Executive Committee and the company’s Executive Management Team.

Guo Ping is rotating CEO, deputy chairman of Huawei’s Board of Directors, and serves as chairman of Huawei’s finance committee.

Since 2003, Guo has served as head of corporate development, overseeing the company’s corporate development strategy as well as M&A and other investment activities.

Guo served as president and chairman of Huawei Device from 2004 to 2011 – now one of Huawei’s most important business divisions. Guo joined Huawei in 1988 in the R&D department and was one of the company’s earliest employees.
