Sistema Shyam TeleServices (MTS India) on Friday said it received its unified telecom license.
The unified license will enable the company to provide technology neutral telecom services for a period of 20 years. MTS India is a subsidiary of Sistema of Russia.
Earlier, MTS India said it would consider launching 4G in India. The new license enables MTS to launch 4G / LTE. Today’s MTS statement does not talk about its future plans relating mobile broadband.
MTS India becomes the first telecom operator in the country to be a part of unified licensing regime.
“This is a positive development and would bring clarity in the operating environment for the company. We are now looking forward to the allotment of the third carrier of spectrum that we had won in the March 2013 auctions,” said Dmitry Shukov, chief executive officer, SSTL.
SSTL has been granted license to provide telecom services in eight circles – Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Kolkata, Tamil Nadu, UP (West) and West Bengal. In addition to these 8 telecom circles, SSTL’s footprint also includes Rajasthan circle.
