Alcatel-Lucent announced that the government of Fiji has unveiled its government data center which marks the completion of its e-Government phase one project acquired from Alcatel-Lucent.
The project resulted in increased efficiency that is reducing costs and enhancing interactions with businesses and citizens. The contract was secured by Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, Alcatel-Lucent’s flagship company in China. Commodore Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama, Fijian Prime Minister and Jim Yao, executive vice president of Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell attended this government Data Center Opening Ceremony.
By taking advantage of Alcatel-Lucent’s tailor-made solution, Fiji’s government employees are able to work more efficiently allowing them to deliver improved public services. The data infrastructure provides a secure environment ensuring privacy and integrity of the information kept by the government and assures workers and citizens alike that their most confidential information stays that way.

The deployment of the e-Government solution is being completed in phases. Currently in operation is the Genesys Contact Center solution along with a pilot deployment of a multi-service IP network based on the Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch 9700, OmniSwitch 6850 and OmniVista Network Management System (NMS). This initial deployment links government offices, data centers, and remote government service hubs at community centers and provides VoIP telephony via the Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Enterprise. e-Government applications were also deployed for internal staff, citizens, and business sectors.
