ZTE completes symmetrical commercial 10G EPON network for Qoncert

ZTE announced at the 2011 FTTH Conference & Expo that
it has built the world’s first symmetrical commercial 10 gigabit Ethernet
passive optical network (EPON) network for technology provider Qoncert.

The network features a 10 gigabit Ethernet (10GE) User
Network Interface (UNI) that enables Qoncert to increase network access speeds
for business customers.

The network combines 10G EPON and Multiprotocol Label
Switching (MPLS) VPN technologies, becoming the first to do so and setting a
new benchmark in the construction of 10G EPON networks.

At Qoncert, we continuously strive to achieve the
highest level of service for our customers and this is another example,” said
Lou Rossi, CEO, Qoncert.

By deploying the technology created by ZTE, we will be
able to significantly improve and enhance network speeds, improving
communication and collaboration. We have always been committed to using cutting
edge technology and are proud to be a part of this exciting endeavor,” Rossi
added.

ZTE utilized its deep knowledge of FTTx in the
development of the network and worked with leading North American operators to
complete testing of the equipment.

North America is a frontier for the application of new
technologies and has always been one of our most priority regions,” said Xu
Ming, vice president, ZTE.

By drawing on our experience in successfully deploying
FTTx technology on a massive scale worldwide, ZTE is eager to demonstrate its
solutions for North American markets. The Qoncert network is a prime example of
the innovation and quality we can bring to customers,” Ming added.

Marvell recently announced that ZTE will mass-produce
a variety of Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) products for China using
Marvell’s AVANTA family of processors.

The agreement comes just one year after entering into a
strategic cooperation relationship between the two companies around
fiber-to-the-x (FTTX) solutions-and follows successful field trials with China
Telecom.
