Reliance Jio 4G venture to invest Rs 700 crore in Assam and Northeast

Telecom operator Reliance Jio Infocomm will invest around Rs 600 to Rs 700 crore to roll out 4G on TD-LTE technology in Assam and Northeast.

The Assam and Northeast region would cover seven states.

The telecom arm of Mukesh Ambani-promoted Reliance Industries would increase investment in phases.

Reliance Jio Infocomm, which received the BWA spectrum in 2010 to offer mobile broadband services, will create job opportunities for more than 3000 people in Assam.

The company has taken an office in Guwahati and recruited around 100 engineers to carry forward the 4G roll out plan. ( Reliance Jio Infocomm’s top team for 4G launch is ready )

Work of laying optical fiber network (OFC) work has started across the region. The company will set up around 800 mobile towers across Assam alone. Reliance Jio will finish this work by the year end or early next year and things will be ready for roll out by April next year.

Reliance Jio is expected to have a 10,000 member team next year from the current 3,000. RIL is committing Rs 150,000 crore investment in the next three years for its expansion plans including 4G venture. RIL did not share details about its specific investment in the 4G project though the Indian telecom industry is expecting $10 billion investment from the billionaire.
