Alcatel-Lucent to drive Surfline 4G LTE services

Surfline Communications has deployed 4G LTE network in Ghana. The network is powered by Alcatel-Lucent.

Alcatel-Lucent will provide hardware and software, along with installation, optimization, and maintenance and managed services.

The IP architecture-based network will give Surfline the ability to expand mobile broadband capacity as customer demand grows.

“We chose Alcatel-Lucent to build and operate our LTE network because of the strong trust and relationship we developed – and the experience that Alcatel-Lucent has on LTE as a technology, as well as its strong presence in Africa, including Ghana. Alcatel-Lucent’s ultra fast broadband solution, market positioning and 4G LTE leadership were essential for our decision,” said John Taylor, executive chairman of Surfline.

Last month, Tech Mahindra agreed to a $20 million deal with Surfline for broadband services.

The Indian telecom solutions provider will develop and manage the IT services capabilities required for the roll-out of Surfline’s product offerings.

In February 2013, Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA) has issued licenses to Surfline and three other companies at a cost of $6 million each to provide broadband wireless access (BWA) in the 2500-2690MHz band in the country.
