Multiplex 4 deploys RGB’s video multiprocessing gateway and broadcast network processor

Telecom Lead Europe: Multiplex 4 (MUX4) has deployed RGB’s Video Multiprocessing Gateway (VMG) and Broadcast Network Processor (BNP) to provide video processing solution for the regionalized delivery of DVB-T (terrestrial) services.

MUX4, the fourth largest Czech TV transmission network operated by Digital Broadcasting, will utilize the H.264/MPEG-4 compression format, delivering high definition TV.

MUX4 supports the multiplexing of several channels in digital format to 13 independent regions, with seven channels each, enabling the delivery of separate broadcast services to particular regions, such as Prague and Central Bohemia.

Digital Broadcasting is hoping to increase MUX4’s coverage to up to 98 percent of the Czech population during 2013. The network currently reaches 86 percent of the country’s population.

RGB’s VMG and BNP support MUX4’s DVB-T headend with the primary application of regionalizing programming for various geographic areas — performing functions including program substitution, graphical overlay insertion, DVB-CA encryption and transcoding — to ensure compliance.

Radim Parizek, CEO at Digital Broadcasting, said: “By performing versatile tasks simultaneously via an integrated platform, RGB’s technology meets our current business needs and adds value to our long-term business strategy.”

“The ability to deliver localized programming efficiently and cost effectively across separate regions is essential to the advancement of any national provider of video services,” said Ramin Farassat, vice president, Product Marketing and Business Development for RGB Networks.
