40 and 100 GE switches to drive Ethernet switch market

The L2-3 Ethernet Switch market is forecast to approach
$25 billion in 2015, with the future growth being driven primarily from sales
of Ethernet switches optimized for larger data center deployments, according to
a recent report by Dell’Oro Group.

By 2015, the L4-7 Application Delivery Controller market
is expected to exceed $1.5 billion with the virtual appliance segment having
the most robust growth over the forecast period.

“Virtualization and the move towards the cloud and
true application mobility and scalability, will ultimately create a world of
far fewer and significantly larger data centers in the future,” said Alan
Weckel, senior director of Dell’Oro Group
.

“In the outer years of our forecast, we believe 40
GE will not only be used in the aggregation layer, but will begin to penetrate
the server access market. 40 GE and 100 GE switches will be an important growth
driver for the Ethernet switch market for the rest of the decade,” Weckel
added.

The report also shows that the Application Delivery Controller
segment is expected to outpace the overall switch market during the forecast period.
Vendors such as A10, Brocade, Cisco, Citrix, F5, Radware, Zeus (recently
purchased by Riverbed), all have product offerings in this segment.
