Turkcell Achieves 90% Human Detection Accuracy in 6G ISAC Field Trials

Turkcell has completed field trials of integrated sensing and communication technology designed for future 6G networks. Disclosed on October 21, the tests used private 5G networks and Tiami Networks’ PolyEdge technology at Istanbul Expo Center and Turkcell Küçükyalı Plaza. The system analyzed C-band 5G radio signals to detect human movement and occupancy without requiring conventional video surveillance equipment. Turkcell reported 90 percent accuracy in identifying different crowd-density levels and positioning sensitivity of approximately three meters. Potential applications include smart buildings, industrial automation, crowd management and emergency response. The trials demonstrate sensing capabilities associated with future 6G networks, rather than a commercial 6G deployment. Investment, spectrum bandwidth and commercialization dates remain undisclosed.

Digicel and Vodafone Activate First Shared Telecom Tower in Papua New Guinea

Digicel Papua New Guinea has activated mobile-network services on a Vodafone PNG tower in Minj, Jiwaka Province. Announced on October 20 and reported on October 22, the activation represents the first operational milestone under the companies’ September 2026 tower-sharing agreement. The operators are preparing another shared deployment in Baiyer River, Western Highlands Province, where Vodafone services will use existing Digicel infrastructure. The arrangement is intended to accelerate mobile coverage expansion while reducing the need to construct duplicate towers. Papua New Guinea’s operators have signed several infrastructure-sharing agreements during recent months, including separate arrangements involving Telikom PNG. The companies have not disclosed investment values, initial site-sharing targets, radio technologies or additional activation dates.

Ericsson, Play and Asseco Demonstrate 6G Drone Detection Using Mobile Network Infrastructure

Ericsson, Polish mobile operator Play and technology company Asseco have demonstrated integrated sensing and communication technology for detecting drones. The October 22 demonstration took place at Ericsson’s research and development facility in Kraków, Poland. The system combines radio-frequency sensing with Asseco’s acoustic detection technology and PUSZCZYK monitoring platform. Play’s mobile network provides connectivity for transmitting information generated by the sensing systems. The architecture is designed to identify and track low-flying drones near airports, ports, borders and other critical infrastructure. ISAC is being investigated as a potential capability of future 6G networks. The partners have not disclosed detection accuracy, operating range, equipment investment, spectrum bandwidth or commercial deployment schedules.
