Today’s telecom news includes announcements on Edgecore Networks, Ericsson, among others.

Edgecore Sparks Open Networking Revolution with OpenWiFi Vision
Edgecore Networks has reaffirmed its commitment to the OpenWiFi Movement, aiming to accelerate open, interoperable network architectures for enterprises and service providers. With growing complexity in network environments driven by cloud-managed operations, IoT adoption, and multi-site deployments organizations are seeking flexible alternatives to proprietary solutions. Edgecore is expanding its open networking roadmap beyond wireless and switching toward full-stack, gateway-oriented capabilities, supporting easier real-world deployment. Recent efforts include two proof-of-concept kits that streamline evaluation and production readiness, notably integrating Zero Touch Provisioning for rapid scaling, while further ecosystem initiatives in 2026 with partners like Indio Networks and Join Digital aim to broaden adoption.
Ericsson Signals More Job Cuts Amid Sluggish 5G Market
Swedish telecom equipment maker Ericsson has announced it will continue reducing its workforce, CEO Borje Ekholm said following the company’s latest earnings call. Over the past year, Ericsson has already eliminated around 5,000 jobs and now plans additional layoffs, including up to 1,600 positions in Sweden announced earlier this month. The job cuts are part of a broader strategy to reduce costs and maintain profitability amid a slower-than-expected global 5G rollout. Despite these workforce reductions, the company reported strong earnings, showing that Ericsson is balancing operational efficiency with ongoing investment in technology and competitiveness in the increasingly challenging telecom equipment market.
