Vodafone Idea deploys Nokia’s AI-powered MantaRay SON solution

Vodafone Idea has deployed Nokia’s AI-powered MantaRay SON (Self-Organizing Networks) solution in its 4G and 5G networks.

This self-organizing network solution will optimize more than 1 million 4G and 5G cells, making one of the largest SON deployments globally.

The AI-powered multi-vendor network optimization platform uses machine learning (ML) algorithms and self-configuring modules to enhance network performance and operational efficiency. MantaRay SON autonomously analyzes network traffic patterns, detects anomalies, and optimizes resources without human intervention.

The SON conducts an average of 7,00,000 autonomous changes per day within Vi’s network, allowing seamless integration with Vi’s existing network infrastructure while providing significant flexibility in deployment.

Recently, Nokia signed a three-year network modernization agreement with Vi to upgrade its 4G infrastructure and expand its 5G footprint across India.

Jagbir Singh, CTO of Vodafone Idea, said: “By harnessing AI, we are transforming our network operations to be more sustainable, agile, energy-efficient, and are delivering best in class service to our consumers.”

Tarun Chhabra, Country Head of Nokia India, said: “By using Nokia’s AI-powered MantaRay SON solution, Vi is equipped to set a new standard for network operation efficiency and customer experience in one of the world’s largest mobile markets.”
