SoftBank and KDDI announced their 120 billion yen capital savings initiative to jointly roll out 4G and 5G network across Japan.
KDDI and SoftBank will roll out 200,000 base stations as per the new initiative across the nation. At present, their joint venture called 5G Japan Corporation built 38,000 5G base stations per operator in rural areas under 45 billion yen Capex savings initiative between 2020 and 2023.
SoftBank and KDDI are aiming to enhance Japan’s international competitiveness by establishing 5G networks that empower all industries, thereby contributing to its industrial development, regional revitalization, and national resilience.
In addition to expanding network coverage areas and technologies, they plan to explore standardizing construction specifications, such as those used for building 5G and 4G base stations, and the joint procurement of equipment.
