SK Telecom (SKT), Docomo, NTT, and Nokia have announced their initiative to develop the 6G AI-native air interface (AI-AI) in order to revolutionize network performance and energy efficiency.
The alliance aims to unveil a video demonstration of the AI-AI proof of concept at SKT’s booth during the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, scheduled from February 26 to 29.
This partnership builds upon the existing collaboration between Docomo, NTT, and Nokia for innovation in 6G business. With the inclusion of SKT, the coalition anticipates expanding the breadth and depth of 6G AI-AI testing and validation, as well as exploring diverse business applications for the technology.
The effort entails the development of future-proof 6G AI-AI systems, which will undergo rigorous testing using selected use cases and real-world environmental scenarios. These validation tests, conducted over the air both in controlled laboratory settings and outdoors, aim to closely simulate actual network conditions.
SK Telecom, NTT, Docomo, and Nokia will synergize their efforts to enhance AI model performance by leveraging data generated from real networks or simulated environments, laying the groundwork for cutting-edge AI training models and delivering a top-tier AI-AI solution.
Yu Takki, Vice President and Head of Infra Tech at SKT, emphasized the significance of this milestone, stating, “This collaborative achievement marks a substantial leap forward in the development of 6G core technology, uniting technology leaders from Korea, Japan, Europe, and the United States.”
Takaaki Sato, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at DOCOMO, underscored the collaborative effort’s focus on innovative technology development and 6G standardization, aiming to foster a global ecosystem encompassing future industries and technologies.
Peter Vetter, President of Bell Labs Core Research at Nokia, highlighted the importance of gathering insights from service providers for creating a world-class 6G system.
