Telefonica reveals Capex and 5G network coverage in first half

Telefonica, one of the leading telecom operators in the world, has revealed its Capex and 5G network coverage during the first half of 2022.
Telefonica’s 5G network in SpainTelefonica said Capex through June amounted to €2.482 billion, stable in organic terms and leading to a ratio of 13 percent of gross operating income, within the target for the full year.

Telefonica’s 5G coverage is growing steadily, with a presence in more than 600 cities / towns across the UK, around 1,600 cities in Germany, 35 cities in Brazil and around 83 percent of the population of Spain covered.

Telefonica’s access base exceeded 384 million at the end of June, up 6 percent from June 2021, thanks to the increase in high-value customers: FTTH (+18 percent) and mobile contract (+9 percent).

Telefonica has maintained its global leadership (excluding China) in the ultrafast broadband network deployments, with 164.7 million premises passed, of which a total of 86 million pass through its own network (+9 percent).

Telefonica said revenues in the second quarter grew 5.2 percent to €11.519 billion and 4.2 percent in the first six months to €22.402 billion.

Telefonica said it generated 28 percent of revenues from Spain, 20 percent from Hispam, 19 percent from Brazil, 18 percent from Germany and 13 percent from the UK in the first half.

Telefonica said OIBDA increased 3.4 percent in the quarter to €3.712 billion, and 2.7 percent in the first six months to €7.465 billion, in both cases taking into account 50 percent of VMO2.

30 percent of OIBDA came from Spain, 23 percent from Brazil, 17 percent from Germany, 15 percent from Hispam and 15 percent from the UK.

“The positive performance between April and June allows the company to further advance and upgrade its financial targets for revenues and OIBDA,” Telefonica Chairman Jose Maria Alvarez-Pallete said in a news statement.
