Xiaomi lost substantial market share in India business: Canalys

Xiaomi has lost substantial market share in India smartphone business during the first quarter of 2022, according to the latest Canalys report.
India smartphone market Q1 2022
The smartphone market share of Xiaomi in India has reached 21 percent in Q1 2022 vs 28 percent in Q1 2021.

On the other hand, Realme has enhanced its smartphone market share to 16 percent in Q1 2022 against 12 percent in Q1 2021.

Smartphone brands such as Samsung, Vivo and Oppo have also lost their market share in India during the first quarter of the current year.

Smartphone vendors shipped 38 million smartphones in India in Q1 2022, achieving 2 percent growth from a year ago, as the leading vendors suffered from intermittent supply issues.

Xiaomi held onto first place with 8 million shipments, despite another quarter of sequential decline. Samsung came second with 6.9 million units, while realme delivered the most vigorous growth among the top five vendors, with shipments up 40 percent year on year at 6.0 million units. Vivo and OPPO completed the top five with 5.7 million and 4.6 million units shipped respectively.

“Supply remained the biggest challenge for vendors, such as Xiaomi and vivo, and they struggled to secure components for their volume-driving low-end models. In contrast, brands such as realme, Tecno and Itel did remarkably well with solid supply,” said Canalys Analyst Sanyam Chaurasia.
