Vodafone 5G presence reaches 274 cities in 11 markets

Vodafone, the second largest telecom operator in the world, revealed that it launched 5G in 274 cities in 11 markets in Europe. Vodafone said it has achieved this leading position by focusing on core fixed and mobile connectivity.

Vodafone reported total revenue of €11.684 billion (+4.3 percent) and service revenue of €9.64 billion (+3.1 percent) during the December quarter of 2021.

Vodafone’s consumer business in Europe accounts for 52 percent of service revenue. Vodafone has 114 million mobile connections, 143 million NGN broadband homes, and 8.6 million converged customers in Europe.

Vodafone’s consumer business in Africa and Turkey accounts for 16 percent of service revenue. Vodafone, including Safaricom, has 187 million mobile customers in 8 African markets, which represent over 40 percent of Africa’s total gross domestic product.

Vodafone’s M-Pesa financial services grew strongly, and the platform processed 5.3 billion transactions, an increase of 26 percent. Vodafone launched VodaPay super-app in South Africa in October 2021, and reached over 1.4 million downloads and more than 1.0 million registered users by the end of Q3.

Vodafone Business accounts for 27 percent of service revenue. Vodafone Business is a growth driver for the Group, with unique scale and capabilities; strong operating momentum and a clear growth pathway.
