This landmark project, set to begin this year, marks the first nationwide 5G deployment in the country and includes upgrading Viettel’s existing 4G infrastructure.

Nokia will provide 2,500 sites with its 5G AirScale portfolio, featuring energy-efficient technology powered by ReefShark System-on-Chip. This network will be the first to use locally manufactured equipment in Vietnam.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communications has emphasized 5G as essential to the country’s technological and economic advancement, with expectations that the digital economy will contribute 20-30 percent of GDP by 2030.

Viettel CEO Tao Duc Thang expressed confidence in the collaboration, noting the potential for 5G to drive Vietnam’s economic growth and productivity.

Tommi Uitto, President of Mobile Networks at Nokia, emphasized the importance of the project in strengthening Vietnam’s digital infrastructure and competitiveness for the future.
