Telefonica Q3 result shows customer addition, Capex reduction

Telefonica said its revenue dropped 2.9 percent to €10.023 billion in Q3 and decreased 0.3 percent to €30.418 billion in nine-months of 2024.

“Our strategic focus on networks transformation continued at pace, with customers at the centre of our transformation journey, and efficiency on operational simplification continuing to drive profitable growth,” Jose Maria Alvarez-Pallete, Chairman and CEO of Telefonica, said.

Telefonica Spain generated revenue of 3,182 million (up 1 percent), representing 31 percent of its total revenue.

Telefonica Brazil has generated revenue of €2,308 million (down 6.4 percent), representing 21 percent of its total revenue.

Telefonica Germany has generated revenue of €2,098 million (down 1.6 percent), representing 21 percent of its total revenue.

Telefonica Hispam has generated revenue of €2,100 million (down 6.2 percent), representing 24 percent of its total revenue.

The Capex at the end of September was €3,642 million (down 4.8 percent) and represents 12 percent of revenues, in line with annual forecasts.

Telefonica ended September with 393 million (up 2 percent) accesses. Fibre and mobile contract customers increased, with cumulative growth of 11 percent and 3 percent, respectively, compared to September 2023.

Telefonica’s fibre footprint in September stood at 178 million premises (up 4 percent), of which 81.6 million were FTTH (up 13 percent). This figure includes a total of 24.1 million premises from the Group’s various fibre vehicles (up 19 percent).

Telefonica’s 5G technology covered 90 percent of the population in Spain, 97 percent in Germany, 57 percent in Brazil and 68 percent in the UK. The cumulative deployment in the Group’s four main markets reached 71 percent of the population, which is more than two years ahead of the target set in the GPS strategic plan to reach 70 percent by 2026.

Telefonica Tech reported revenues of €470 million in the third quarter, for a total of €1,453 million in the first nine months of the year, 9.5 percent more than in the same period of the previous year.

Telefonica Infra ended September with 24 million premises passed with fibre. Telxius, the submarine cable management company, reported traffic growth of 12 percent in the first nine months and achieved profitability ratio of 48.9 percent.
