T-Mobile has announced a major milestone in the evolution of its 5G Standalone (SA) network with the rollout of four-carrier aggregation, providing customers across the country with unprecedented speeds.
Ulf Ewaldsson, President of Technology at T-Mobile, stated that the company is blazing the trail for wireless customers worldwide, delivering new capabilities that fully unleash the true potential of 5G.
The latest upgrade enables T-Mobile’s 5G SA network to achieve peak speeds topping 3.3 Gbps, as demonstrated in recent tests. The four-carrier aggregation, live in certain parts of T-Mobile’s network, will soon be accessible nationwide in the coming weeks.
T-Mobile explained that 5G carrier aggregation allows the company to combine multiple 5G channels (carriers), leading to enhanced speed and overall performance. By merging four 5G channels of sub-6 GHz spectrum, including two channels of 2.5 GHz Ultra Capacity 5G, one channel of 1900 MHz, and one channel of 600 MHz spectrum, T-Mobile effectively creates a massive superhighway for data traffic. This allows users to experience faster and smoother connectivity, similar to having four separate highways functioning as one.
The first beneficiaries of this technology will be users with the Samsung Galaxy S23, but T-Mobile promises that more devices will soon follow to take advantage of the four-carrier aggregation feature.
This achievement marks one of several important 5G SA milestones for T-Mobile. Back in 2020, T-Mobile became the first company globally to launch a nationwide 5G SA network, which remains the only nationwide 5G SA network in the United States. Since then, the company has continued to strive towards a comprehensive 5G-only experience for its customers, spearheading advancements like carrier aggregation and Voice over New Radio (VoNR) technology.
T-Mobile’s commitment to 5G development has solidified its position as the leader in 5G. The company boasts the country’s largest, fastest, and most awarded 5G network, covering an impressive 326 million people across two million square miles. This expansive coverage surpasses the combined coverage of AT&T and Verizon, solidifying T-Mobile’s presence as a dominant force in the 5G race.
Currently, 275 million people nationwide can access T-Mobile’s super-fast Ultra Capacity 5G, and the company has ambitious plans to extend Ultra Capacity to 300 million people this year, reaching nearly the entire population of the country.
With this latest milestone, T-Mobile is proving its dedication to transforming the wireless experience for its customers, solidifying its position at the forefront of the 5G revolution. As the rollout of four-carrier aggregation expands nationwide, consumers can look forward to enjoying blazing fast speeds on T-Mobile’s cutting-edge 5G network.
