Reliance Jio Infocomm has surpassed its minimum roll-out obligations of 5G using mmWave spectrum across all 22 Licensed Service Areas (LSAs) well ahead of schedule.
This milestone was achieved in alignment with the spectrum allocation received on August 17, 2022. The completion of the Phase 1 minimum roll-out obligation was officially submitted to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on July 19, 2023, and subsequent essential DoT testing was concluded in all circles by August 11, 2023.
Reliance Jio, the leading telecom service provider in India, does not reveal the Capex for its 5G network expansion. Reliance Jio has also never revealed the number of 5G users on its 5G network in India.
Renowned for its expansive spectrum footprint, Reliance Jio secured an unparalleled combination of low-band, mid-band, and mmWave spectrum. The integration of this spectrum, in conjunction with their robust fiber network and innovative indigenous technology platforms, positions Reliance Jio to deliver 5G accessibility to every corner, catering to both consumers and enterprises.
Remarkably, Jio stands as the sole possessor of 1,000 MHz in the millimeter wave band (26 GHz) across all 22 circles, uniquely poised to facilitate enterprise use cases alongside high-quality streaming services.
Throughout the process, Jio’s dedicated engineers worked tirelessly to accomplish the swiftest deployment of their True 5G network. This achievement propels Jio to boast the world’s fastest rollout of 5G at such a scale. In celebration of the 77th Independence Day, Jio’s mmWave-based True-5G business connectivity is being unveiled, marking a significant milestone for the nation under the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ initiative.
Jio believes that the distinctiveness of the mmWave spectrum, coupled with Jio’s True-5G benefits arising from StandAlone deployment, represents a pivotal differentiation factor that will empower them to offer a comprehensive 5G-based business connectivity solution. This solution is tailored to serve millions of small, medium, and large enterprises, subsequently driving innovation and growth across sectors.
“We have not only met but exceeded the minimum roll-out obligations for the allocated 5G spectrum. Our dedicated team has worked relentlessly since the spectrum acquisition in August last year, ensuring that we uphold our promise of achieving pan-India 5G coverage by year-end,” Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, said
The advantages of 5G mmWave are characterized by its exceptional bandwidth capacity and minimal latency. This innovation offers unprecedented speeds and diminished delay for enterprises seeking to implement cutting-edge applications. By introducing mmWave business solutions, Jio aims to revolutionize the market for leased lines, empowering countless small and medium businesses with enterprise-grade connectivity and innovative business solutions, thereby propelling the digital transformation of these enterprises. The mmWave spectrum holds the potential to deliver ultra-high-speed broadband of up to 2 Gbps.
Millimeter wave technology will usher in an era of 5G networks capable of delivering unrivaled speed and reliability for a multitude of applications. Jio’s network infrastructure has been designed to scale seamlessly for billions of devices, setting a new standard for data packet delivery with lightning-fast speeds, negligible network latency, and no discernible lag. This breakthrough technology promises to reshape millions of small and medium businesses, unleashing a wave of positive transformation.
