Reliance Jio commits $25 bn to add 5G business in Oct

Reliance Industries (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani said Jio will begin rolling out 5G services for its subscribers in the next two months.
Jio smartphone customersReliance Jio has committed 2 trillion rupees ($25 billion) to roll out the 5G services, Mukesh Ambani said at the company’s annual general meeting. The company will start rolling out 5G in key cities before covering pan-India by December 2023.

Earlier this month, Jio emerged as the biggest spender in India’s $19 billion 5G spectrum auction, winning airwaves worth $11 billion.

The Indian government aims to begin the rollout of 5G – which it says can provide data speeds about 10 times faster than 4G – by October this year.

Jio 5G services will be available across four key metropolitan cities, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata by Diwali.

Jio plans to roll-out full pan-India coverage by December 2023. Jio True 5G will be expanded to other cities and towns in phases rapidly to cover entire India in 18 months by December 2023.

Jio claims the 5G rollout plan to be the fastest in the world. Jio’s 5G network will be Stand-alone with zero dependency on 4G network. The three-fold advantage of Stand-Alone 5G architecture, largest and best mix of spectrum and Carrier Aggregation technology means that Jio 5G will be able to offer an unparalleled combination of coverage, capacity, quality and affordability.

Jio will offer stand-alone 5G with carrier aggregation technology. Jio states the Stand-Alone 5G will help Jio deliver new and powerful services like low latency, massive machine-to-machine communication, 5G voice, Edge computing and network slicing, and Metaverse.
