China Mobile ARPU dips 2.6% despite adding 44 mn 5G users

China Mobile indicated that its ARPU fell 2.6 percent despite adding significant number of 5G users to its 5G network in the country.

The ARPU of China Mobile decreased to 48.9 RMB during January-September 2020 from 50.3 RMB during January-June 2020. China Mobile’s 5G subscriber base increased to 114 million from 70 million during the period. China Mobile’s 4G subscriber base rose to 770 million from 760 million.

China Mobile’s total number of mobile customers reached around 946 million for the first three quarters of 2020.

Handset data traffic increased 35 percent year-on-year to 65.3 billion GB with handset data DOU reaching 9.1GB. Total voice usage dropped by 7.1 percent year-on-year to 2,258.0 billion minutes. SMS usage rose by 15.5 percent year-on-year to 713.0 billion.

China Mobile has 204 million wireline broadband customers, with a net increase of 17.17 million for the first three quarters of the year. Wireline broadband ARPU increased to RMB32.4 from RMB 31.7.

China Mobile’s operating revenue rose by 1.4 percent year-on-year to RMB574.4 billion for the first three quarters of 2020. Of which, revenue from telecommunications services grew by 2.5 percent year-on-year to RMB525.7 billion whereas that from the sales of products and others declined by 9.2 percent year-on-year to RMB48.7 billion.

China Mobile’s profit fell by 0.3 percent year-on-year to RMB81.6 billion for the first three quarters of 2020. Margin of profit was 14.2 percent. EBITDA reduced by 3.8 percent year-on-year to RMB216.9 billion.
