5G subscriptions are forecast to reach 1.77 billion subscribers in 2023 from 1.15 billion by the end of 2022, the latest GSA.com report said.
5G subscriptions will account for 16 percent of all global mobile subscriptions by the end of 2023 from 10.7 percent of all global mobile subscriptions in 2022.
CCS Insight forecasts there will be 13.57 billion mobile subscriptions globally by the end of 2026.
Between 2022 and 2026, the share of GSM technology in new mobile phones will fall from 6.5 percent to 3.4 percent, and the share represented by W-CDMA/WCDMA-HSPA will drop from 4.7 percent to just 0.74 percent.
LTE, the dominant technology for new mobile devices for over a decade, will see a decline over the next four to five years, with its share slipping from 44.6 percent to 20.3 percent.
5G’s market share for new mobile devices grows from 44 percent to 75.4 percent between 2022 and 2026, overtaking LTE by the end of 2023, with 51.9 percent and 41.4 percent respectively.
