ViaSat announced that it has been selected by Bombardier Aerospace to provide airborne communications
terminal equipment as part of a new high-speed Internet option on Global 5000
and Global 6000 aircraft.
The Bombardier option combines the ViaSat VMT-1500 shipset along with the EMS
Aviation CNX-200 router to provide an office-in-the-sky connection for business
aviation passengers.
“Aircraft equipped with this option will be able to use our Yonder high-speed Internet
service to enjoy a modern office environment anywhere in our coverage
network,” said Don Buchman, director of mobile broadband, ViaSat.
Because of its high-speed connection and global coverage, Yonder service really is a
one-of-a-kind offering. Now Global aircraft customers can gain access to it and
make the most efficient use of their time onboard.
Yonder airborne broadband service provides Global aircraft passengers full Internet
connections (Wi-Fi), Virtual Private Network (VPN), e-mail with attachments via
laptops, voice-over IP (VoIP), and the use of other Wi-Fi devices.
Yonder service provides typical download speeds to aircraft of 1 to 2 Megabits per
second (Mbps) and upload from the aircraft speeds of more than 128 kilobits per
second (kbps).
“Global business aircraft cabins are specifically designed to provide a highly
productive working environment, a key factor in making these aircraft a leading
choice for corporations worldwide. EMS Aviation and ViaSat have been leading
the charge in the development of communication systems, using EMS high-speed
routers and Yonder high-speed Internet service to provide the highest
performance in-flight data service possible,” said Stephane Leblanc,
VP and general manager, Global Platform, Bombardier Business Aircraft.
