TIM Brazil reveals revenue, 5G subscribers and Capex

Telecom operator TIM Brazil has revealed growth in revenue, 5G subscribers, 5G coverage and Capex during 2022.

TIM Brazil’s capital expenditure (Capex) excluding spectrum touched R$1.375 billion (+9.6 percent) in the fourth quarter and R$4.73 billion (+8 percent) in 2022.

TIM Brazil’s Capex in network was R$998 million in Q4 and R$3.449 billion in 2022. TIM Brazil’s Capex in IT and others was R$377 million in Q4 and R$1.287 billion in 2022.

TIM Brazil has 1.286 million 5G subscribers and 54.98 million 4G subscribers in 2022.

TIM Brazil said its Capex increased 9.6 percent due to the costs arising from the integration of assets acquired from Oi and the implementation and expansion of 5G across the country. Capex-to-revenue ratio reached 23.4 percent in Q4, down by 2.7 p.p. over 4Q21. In 2022, Capex-to-revenue ratio was 21.9 percent.

In January, TIM became the first and only operator to cover 100 percent of the municipalities in Brazil. TIM provides coverage to 5,570 cities nationwide. TIM is the market leader in 4G coverage, connecting 5,370 cities in the 4Q22. TIM’s 5G, at the end of 2022, has reached all the capital cities of Brazil, marking its presence in the country’s 27 state capitals with a total number of antennas that surpasses Anatel’s minimum requirement.

TIM Brazil’s revenue increased 22.4 percent to R$5.874 billion drive by mobile service revenue (+22.7 percent), the acquisition of Oi’s mobile assets and the company’s strategy to monetize its customer base; fixed service revenue (+9.1 percent) driven by the growth of TIM UltraFibra (formerly TIM Live) (+10.3 percent; and handset revenue (+36.8 percent).

In 2022, TIM Brazil’s revenue grew 19.5 percent to R$21,580 million.

TIM Brazil’s mobile service revenue rose 22.7 percent to R$5,305 million in 4Q22, driven by revenues generated with the mobile base acquired from Oi and the performance achieved by the Prepaid and Postpaid segments in the quarter.

Mobile ARPU fell 3.2 percent to R$26.9 in the quarter, impacted by the dilution effects from the addition of customers arriving from Oi which had a lower ARPU but was partially offset in 4Q22 as a result of the client base clean-up carried out in November of the silent lines that came from Oi.
