Telenor 4G LTE reaches 100 municipalities in Norway

Telecom service provider Telenor on Wednesday announced that its 4G LTE services are available in 100 municipalities in Norway.

This means Telenor 4G is available to more than half of Norway’s population.

Telenor will roll out approximately 2,300 base stations over the year. The rate of expansion during the last two months has been over 300 base stations per month.

The telecom operator will continue its 4G LTE expansion next year.

Telenor Norway CEO Berit Svendsen said Telenor has almost 500,000 active 4G customers on its 4G network, and virtually all sales of smartphones are now 4G phones.

Telenor is also expanding its 3G network in parallel with 4G. Telenor now offers 3G coverage to 95 per cent of the population.

“Over the course of just the last three months of 2013, 95 municipalities will have received improved 3G coverage. We are investing heavily in the expansion of our 3G and 4G networks to ensure that as many people as possible can enjoy the best possible surfing experience,” said Svendsen.

Telenor says the newly assigned new frequencies will enable the telecom to enhance coverage in early 2014.
