T-Mobile offers 2 GB LTE data for $5 per month to users with $40 plan

T-Mobile today announced 2 GB of LTE data for $5 per month to Simple Starter customers who are already getting unlimited talk and text, and 500 MB of LTE data for $40.

The new plan from T-Mobile indicates that the unlimited text does not have any significant value to U.S. wireless customers. If they need to experience high speed internet, they need to buy 4G data.

Also, the effective output of the new plan is that T-Mobile is offering 2.5 GB of data and other perks for $45.

Simple Starter plan was announced in May.

Under the $5 plan for adding 2 GB 4G data, there will be no annual service contract and no domestic overages, said T-Mobile.

By comparison, other entry-level plans come with data overages that penalize customers for using more data.

John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile, said its rivals punish people for using more data on their networks with overage charges and fees.

For instance, Verizon’s $50 plan will shoot up to $65 if one uses just one gig more data.

T-Mobile claims that it has more network capacity per customer−and a 70 percent more network spectrum per customer than even Verizon.

Since last year, the Un-carrier has expanded LTE coverage from zero to 233 million Americans.
