Mobile Internet speed dips in March: TRAI report reveals

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has revealed the latest 3G and 4G network speed test result — for January-February-March 2017 — of leading mobile operators.

TRAI says the results represent the average of the data speed samples collected from various consumers of the TSPs on a crowd sourcing basis during speed test initiated by them over the last 3 months and the monthly trends are updated on the 1st of every month.

The 3G network download and upload, and 4G network download and upload speed test – on TRAI http://www.myspeed.trai.gov.in/ website shows that most of the telecom operator’s mobile data speed dipped in March 2017 as compared with February 2017 and January 2017.

3G download speed of all telecom operators have plummeted in March 2017. The chart reveals that Tata Docomo has improved 3G speed in terms of downloads.

The TRAI chart on 3G upload speed test shows that all major operators could not improve or sustain their 3G upload speed in March as compared with previous months in the year 2017. Tata Docomo has improved its 3G upload speed.

In the 4G market, which is seeing maximum action, all operators have lost their 4G download speed as compared with previous months, TRAI reveals. Idea Cellular is trying to maintain the speed, the chart reveals.

4G upload speed did not improve in March for many telecom network operators in India. Jio has improved the 4G upload speed. Idea Cellular’s 4G upload speed fell drastically as compared with other mobile operators.

The month of March 2017 was active for most of the telecom operators because Jio earlier announced that its free offers will end in the month and paid services will start in April. During the month, most of the telecoms announced special data plans and tried to enhance customer base.
