By Telecom Lead Team: According to a TRAI report, there
are 7,890 cyber cafes at the end of September 2011 as compared to 7,958 at the
end of June 2011, registering a decline of 0.85 percent during the quarter.
The primary driver of the decline in the number of cyber
café is the mobile broadband boom in India.
The number of wireless data subscribers has gone up to
373 million in quarter ended September 2011 from 274.05 million in the same
quarter in 2010.
Wireless data user base stood at 346.67 million in
quarter ended June 2011.
42.79 percent of total wireless subscribers base are
capable of accessing data services/Internet at the end of September 2011 as
against 40.70 percent at the end of previous quarter.

registering a growth of 3.25 percent. Apart from this, 373.84 million wireless
subscribers have subscribed to data services, as reported by the wireless
service providers.
Number of broadband subscribers increased from 12.35
million at the end of June 2011 to 12.83 million at the end of September 2011,
registering a quarterly growth of 3.93 percent and y-o-y growth of 24.54
percent, according to TRAI.

subscription increased from 60.7 percent at the end of June 2011 to 61.1
percent at the end of September 2011.
Maharashtra is having largest Internet (<256 Kbps) and
broadband (>=256 Kbps) subscriber base in the country. Tamil Nadu is at
second place in internet and broadband subscriber base.
At the end of September 2011, in all the top 10 states,
the number of broadband subscribers is more than the number of Internet
subscribers.
