The Chinese telecom achieved its target to enhance its network capacity to manage the increase in wireless data traffic at the international sports event in China.

During the event, traffic load in the network reached its peak — 6500 4G LTE users at peak — as many of the 45,000 spectators used various apps to share their captured pictures and videos.

Nokia Networks’ Flexi Zone TD-LTE small cells managed wireless data with up to 400 simultaneous active LTE users per base station – 4 to 8 times more simultaneous users than other outdoor small cells.

The company claims that Nokia Flexi Zone base stations delivered 100 percent availability with key performance indicators (KPIs) above 99.8 percent throughout the entire event.

Meanwhile, China Mobile, the world’s largest telecom operator based on subscriber base, added 19 million 4G subscribers in December 2014, bringing its 4G subscriber base to 90.1 million in 2014.
