Vodafone taps secure device market in India as 57.1% employees engage in BYOD

Telecom Lead India: Vodafone India has launched Vodafone Secure Device Manager for enterprises in India.

This is primarily aimed at capturing the growing Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) market in India.

InfotechLead.com today reported that BYOD is picking up in emerging markets including India, according to Ovum. Across 17 markets, 57.1 percent of full-time employees engage in some form of BYOD.

Vodafone India claims that it is the first Indian telecom operator to launch this solution which acts as a flexible tool to keep the data on smartphone and tablets secure.

Vodafone Secure Device Manager allows people to work with smart devices without compromising their company’s security.

Vodafone’s solution allows users to remotely lock or wipe all information from their smart device.

Employees in high-growth markets are more willing to embrace the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) phenomenon and the personal productivity benefits of enterprise mobility compared to those in mature markets.

“Employees in high-growth, emerging economies are demonstrating a more flexible attitude to working hours, and are happy to use their own devices for work. However, in mature markets, employees have settled into comfortable patterns of working behavior and are more precious about the separation of their work and personal domains,” said Richard Absalom, consumer impact IT analyst at Ovum.

Driving this trend is the predisposition of professionals in high-growth markets to “live to work” and the lower rate of corporate provision of mobile handsets and tablets.

75 percent of respondents in the emerging, high-growth markets (including Brazil, Russia, India, UAE, and Malaysia) demonstrate a much higher propensity to use their own devices at work, compared to 44 percent in more mature markets.

“We’re witnessing an increase in Mobile Data security concerns raised by customers. Vodafone Business Services is proud to introduce the ‘Secure Device Manager’ solution. It will allow IT administrators to easily manage & secure their organization’s smart device fleet, via a simple & easy to use console. It’s the only way to let your people bring their smart devices to work without compromising your company’s security,” said Naveen Chopra, director, Vodafone Business Services.

Since its inception, Vodafone Business Services has garnered over 3.6 million corporate customers in India and currently provides services to over 60,000 global and national businesses equipped with a robust and superior network infrastructure and a 24×7 NOC.
