Telefonica, China Unicom to share international data centers

Globe Telecom new data center in Philippines
Telefonica announced its deal with China Unicom to share their international data centers.

Initially the agreement will focus on three major data centres from each operator. They will add more facilities over time.

Customers of China Unicom can utilize data centers of Telefonica in Brazil (Sao Paulo), USA (Miami) and Spain (Alcala de Henares in Madrid).

As part of the announcement, Telefonica, a global telecom network operator, will be making additional investment towards new data center infrastructure, facilities and multi-cloud solutions.

Telefonica will leverage cloud capabilities of data centers of China Unicom in Langfang, Shanghai and Chongqing to enable service delivery for its multinational customers.

The benefits of the data center deal include aggregation, easier sharing of data, opportunities to develop common data platforms and foster global collaboration plus the ability to leverage economies of scale.

Telefonica has a customer base of 329 million in 21 countries around the world. China Unicom’s mobile, fixed-line broadband and local access businesses reached 439 million as at the end of May 2015.
