T-Mobile CEO John Legere wants Verizon to stop milking U.S. wireless subscribers by imposing penalties in the form of overages.
Earlier, he did not get any positive response from his rivals. He thinks that the innovative way of communicating this to Verizon is to reach its head quarter and shout for support.
John Legere said a team of T-Mobile skywriters will be flying 6,000 feet above Verizon Wireless’s headquarters in Basking Ridge, New Jersey at 10:00 a.m. Eastern today. The skywriters will send a message on behalf of wireless consumers who called for the end to the practice of overages in the U.S. wireless industry.
Last year AT&T, Verizon and Sprint — three rivals of T-Mobile – have milked $1.5 billion in overage penalties from their customers, according to T-Mobile estimates.
The company did not get any response despite more than 325,000 people signing John Legere’s Change.org petition to abolish overages, making it the #1 technology petition of all time on the site.
CEOs of AT&T, Verizon and Sprint did not listen to John Legere when he joined hands with social media fans as well. Hence, John Legere is taking another step to convince the telecom network operators.
“When the old guard carriers refused to eliminate this archaic practice, John went to social media to see what sort of message he should send to really get their attention. After polling his followers, skywriting was the clear medium of choice,” said T-Mobile.
John’s message to Verizon will be visible over the Verizon Wireless Headquarters (1 Verizon Way, Basking Ridge, New Jersey 07920) and downtown Newark.
