Reliance Communications has lost 10.49 million mobile subscribers in September 2013, according to TRAI data. Idea Cellular and Vodafone India added more than 1.20 million net additions each.
Besides Reliance Communications, MTNL lost 232,273 mobile subscribers, Tata Teleservices (TTSL) 143,567, BSNL 74,566 and MTS 12,690.
Reliance Communications lost 10.49 million users as part of a de-activation drive.
While Idea Cellular has topped the list of net additions in September 2013, ahead of Vodafone, Indian telecom operators such as Bharti Airtel added 1.16 million mobile users, Aircel 642,799 and Videocon 314,780, according to TRAI subscriber data.
The strategy of Reliance Communications has impacted the overall growth of mobile subscriber base. TRAI data said wireless subscriber base decreased 0.70 percent to 870.58 million in September 2013 from 876.72 million in August 2013.
Urban wireless subscribers share has declined to 59.75 percent (520.21 million) from 59.98 percent (525.84 million) whereas share of rural wireless subscribers has decreased to 40.02 percent (350.37 million) from 40.25 percent (350.88 million), TRAI said.
The overall wireless Teledensity in India has declined to 70.63 from 71.21 of previous month. The urban wireless Teledensity has decreased from 139.65 to 137.93 and rural Teledensity has decreased from 41.05 to 40.96.
