Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 9th edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, Asia’s largest telecom, media, and technology event, today at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi.

Modi highlighted that India’s technological future is in capable hands, with startups presenting cutting-edge innovations across 6G, Quantum Communication, Financial Fraud Prevention, Optical Communication, and Semiconductors. He remarked that the IMC has evolved from a telecom-focused gathering into Asia’s largest digital technology forum, driven by India’s youth, talent, and innovation ecosystem.
Modi said initiatives such as the Telecom Technology Development Fund and Digital Communications Innovation Square are empowering Indian startups. He added that the government is funding test beds for 5G, 6G, and tera-hertz technologies, promoting collaboration between startups, academia, and industry. These partnerships are helping India develop indigenous technologies, create intellectual property, and contribute to global telecom standards.
The Prime Minister cited India’s phenomenal progress in telecom manufacturing, noting that mobile production has grown 28 times since 2014 and exports have surged by 127 times. He highlighted that 45 Indian firms are now part of a major global smartphone supply chain, creating 3.5 lakh jobs, and millions more through indirect opportunities.
Modi celebrated the launch of the indigenous 4G stack, positioning India among only five nations with such capability. Nearly one lakh 4G towers were activated simultaneously, connecting over two crore people—many from remote areas. He emphasized that this technology is export-ready, strengthening India’s ambition for 6G leadership under the India 6G Vision 2030.
India is the second-largest telecom and 5G market, supported by vast manpower, mobility, and a digital-first mindset. With the lowest mobile data rates in the world and among the highest per-user data consumption, India’s digital revolution is now inclusive and widespread.
The Prime Minister praised the participation of over 500 startups at IMC 2025, which offers them access to investors, global mentors, and collaboration opportunities. He emphasized that India’s digital future depends on the speed of startups and the scale of established players, supported by strong R&D and government policies.
He urged stakeholders to focus on semiconductor diversification, telecom equipment manufacturing, and data center expansion, stating that India is poised to become a global data and connectivity hub.
IMC 2025 brings together 1.5 lakh visitors from over 150 countries, 7,000+ global delegates, and 400+ companies. The event will feature 1,600+ use cases across 5G/6G, AI, green technology, quantum computing, and cybersecurity, with 100+ sessions and 800+ speakers.
With its focus on innovation, collaboration, and digital empowerment, the India Mobile Congress 2025 embodies India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision and reaffirms its position as a global leader in telecom and emerging technologies.
