MWC 2016: NTT DOCOMO to demo 5G, machine translation, IoT

NTT Docomo
Telecom network operator NTT DOCOMO will demonstrate 5G technology, machine translation, IoT: Linking and network consultancy at the forthcoming Mobile World Congress 2016 (MWC).

5G

NTT DOCOMO will showcase trials involving 5G millimeter-wave system that DOCOMO has been developing with Nokia Networks. Visitors can see how a directional and attenuated radio wave signal in the 70GHz can follow a mobile terminal by using an Augmented Reality (AR) beam visualization system.

The exhibit will also introduce the concept of “slicing,” an essential core network technology for the future of 5G that will enable a core network to be optimized for low latency, high security, disaster prevention or the IoT, depending on specific needs.

Machine translation

NTT DOCOMO says visitors at MWC 2016 will experience three translation technologies that help foreign visitors enjoy their stays in Japan. Demonstrations will show how machine translation for conversational, handwritten and even colloquial SNS communication will facilitate intercultural communication that transcends language barriers.

IoT: Linking

DOCOMO will demo Linking, an IoT platform that connects smartphone applications and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices. Linking is expected to provide a key means of connecting to the IoT and make it a seamless part of customers’ daily lives.

Network consultancy

NTT DOCOMO is introducing network consulting services to support mobile operators in improving the quality of their networks and in migrating to next-generation technologies.
