MTS India Q2 revenue up 2.6% to INR 4,177 million

Telecom Lead India: Sistema Shyam TeleServices (MTS India) has posted 2.6 percent increase in revenue q-o-q to INR 4,177 million in the second quarter ended June 30, 2012.

On y-o-y revenues grew 50 percent.

The revenue growth was driven by 41 percent increase in subscriber base over Q2 2011. Its subscriber base grew by 4.9 percent to 16.60 million during the quarter.

The number of data subscribers increased by 11.8 percent over Q1 2012 to 1.73 million. The mobile operator added 0.18 million data card subscribers during the quarter.

MTS said its non-voice revenues from both data and mobile VAS grew 3.9 percent to INR 1,484 million.

Both data and mobile VAS contributes 35.5 percent of total revenue.

MTS India claims that the contribution of non voice revenues to the total revenues is amongst the highest in the industry.

Mobile ARPU declined 2.3 percent to INR 83.

Consolidated OIBDA loss for the quarter stands at INR 4,509 million.

“The recent regulatory and tax developments have significantly impacted the growth of the Indian Telecom Industry. Despite these challenges, SSTL has maintained its scale of operations and has also grown its business by further strengthening all its revenue lines. Our data card subscriber base continues to grow in double digits despite the recent tariff reduction by 3G operators. Going forward, the plan includes to continue our focus on driving operational efficiencies and to provide greater value to all our stakeholders,” said Vsevolod Rozanov, president and chief executive officer of Sistema Shyam Teleservices.

Its mobile subscribers’ MoU declined to 281 min vs. 296 min in Q1 2012.

MTS India’s subscriber market share increased to 1.77 percent in Q2 2012 (vs. 1.72 percent in Q1 2012).

During the quarter, SSTL has raised INR 500 crores from banks.
