MTN reveals 5G focus, Capex, ARPU, revenue growth in Q1

MTN Group, which has presence in several African telecom markets, has revealed its 5G focus, Capex, ARPU, revenue growth during the first quarter of 2023.
MTN store South AfricaMTN said its Capex reached R14,806 million in Q1 2023 vs R10,699 million in Q1 2022 vs R17,568 million in Q4 2022.

MTN said its Capex (ex-leases) fell 9.5 percent to R6,375 million in Q1 2023 vs R7,048 million in Q1 2022.

MTN Nigeria’s data revenue rose 40 percent on increased subscribers (+14.7 percent) and data usage (+31.3 percent) enabled by the investment in 4G and 5G network expansion. Data traffic grew by 50.3 percent, with our 4G network covering 79.3 percent of the population.

MTN Nigeria has added 169k home broadband users, bringing the user base to 1.4 million, supported by the deployment of 5G fixed wireless access devices, mobile broadband solutions and fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) connectivity.
ARPU of MTN Q1 2023MTN said total subscribers increased 5.2 percent to 290.6 million. MTN’s active data subscribers rose 11.9 percent to 140.4 million. MTN’s active Mobile Money users grew 5.2 percent to 61.7 million. MTN’s data traffic increased 19.3 percent to 3 221.26 PB. MTN’s fintech transaction volumes increased 38.8 percent to 4.1 billion.

MTN has generated service revenue of R10,108 million from South Africa, R21,744 million from Nigeria, R2,959 million from Uganda, R945 million from Rwanda, R747 million from Zambia, R623 million from South Sudan, R13 million from Business Group, R4,173 million from Ghana, R2,212 million from Cameroon, R2,468 million from Cote d’Ivoire, R 1,951 million from Benin, R 423 million from Congo-Brazzaville, R 435 million from Liberia, R 73 million from Guinea-Bissau, R 1,569 million from Sudan, R 589 million from Afghanistan, R 2,288 million from Iran, R 284 million from Botswana, R 106 million from eSwatini during the first quarter of 2023.
