Huawei bags five-year managed services deal from O2 network

Telecom Lead Europe: Chinese telecom equipment maker
Huawei has bagged a five-year managed services deal to manage O2’s UK network.

 

As per the deal, Huawei will provide planning and
implementation of O2″²s network, including build out of new network
infrastructure and handling transmission between the operator’s network and the
rest of the UK’s communication infrastructure.

 

As part of this five-year deal, more than 100 staff will
transfer to Chinese telecom infrastructure giant. 56 staff currently involved
in overseeing O2″²s network are moving permanently from O2 to Huawei, along with
a further 62 contractors.

 

We are very pleased to announce our first major managed
services agreement in the UK. Huawei works with Telefónica in a number of
markets around the world and today’s agreement means we are extending our
relationship to the UK. Today’s announcement is an important first step in
building world-class managed services capability in the UK,” said Victor Zhang,
CEO, Huawei UK.

 

He added that the agreement is a long-term strategic
commitment from both Huawei and Telefónica UK to deliver the best in class
management of a core network.

 

Huawei to invest more in European telecom markets

 

Recently, Huawei announced that it is framing strategies
to strengthen its focus in Europe.

 

The company identified Europe as one of the important
markets for future development. Huawei is planning to up its investment in
Europe and focus on establishing more partnerships with European firms.

 

A few months back, Huawei acquired the Centre for Integrated Photonics (CIP),
the UK’s photonics research laboratory, which is owned by the East of England
Development Agency (EEDA).
