Gurdeep Singh to head Reliance Communications as president & CEO

Telecom Lead India: Reliance Communications has appointed
Gurdeep Singh as president & CEO of its Wireless Business.

Gurdeep replaces Syed Safawi who stepped down recently.

Gurdeep will be responsible for leading Reliance
Communications Wireless Business to achieve higher revenues and
profitability.

Gurdeep Singh will also be a member of Reliance Management
Board (RMB).

Gurdeep is joining the telecom operator at a time when
Reliance Communications is planning to spend Rs 1,500 crore as Capex.

Reliance Communications to spend Rs 1,500 crore on capital
expenditure in 2012-13

The mobile operator has spent Rs 1,499 crore
as Capex for FY12, which the company says is in line with their
guidance of Rs 1,500 crore for FY12 and has been funded through internal
accruals.

RCOM consolidated revenue stood at Rs. 5,310 crore, as
against Rs. 5,055 crore in Q3, up by 5 percent.

Gurdeep Singh has experience of 29 years and has worked in
sectors like telecom, home appliances and consumer electronics.

Before joining Reliance ADA Group, Gurdeep was the chief
operating officer, India, with Aircel. He was credited with the
significant growth of Aircel in India.

He has also worked in Hutch (Now Vodafone) as director
Operations, North, for about 5 years.

With a mere 9% rise in 2011 telecom revenue, heads roll at
Indian mobile operators

In early 2012, more than six CEOs / CXOs resigned from
Indian telecom operators. This include Syed Safawi of Reliance Communications,
Atul Bindal of Bharti Airtel, Shamik Das of S Tel, Malickarjun Rao, Rahul
Saigal and Gurdeep Singh of Aircel, Sushil Prakash and Pankaj Sethi of Tata Teleservices and top team at Virgin
Mobile India.
